Hangar price sanity check
 

I am looking at purchasing a 42x30 Hanger. Included in the purchase price is the following:
Trusses
Truss Hardware
40x12 Electric Bi-fold Door with Metal Sheeting
Remote with Sideblocks for Bi-Fold Door
Wood Schedule
Assy Plans and Instructions
Cert. Plans
Delivery

(No siding included, as I have to match the siding and roofing to the house)

Cost: $18,000 est.

In my looking around, this looks like a good deal for a reasonable size hangar and door. Is this comprable/better/worse than what other people have seen/bought?

Not that I am any expert (I'm not) but that just seems very high, especially since there is not any exterior siding included in that quote?

Have you checked the company "Mueller"? They have some do it yourself kits and/or they will build them for you. I have three friends who have used Mueller in the recent years, and they were all very happy with the results/price.

I had my hangar started in September of 2000. The 36.5 X 13 door from Hi-Fold was $4,650 back then. Also, the price of steel has doubled since 2000. My 50 X 50 X 20 with a 25 X 50 mezzanine level was 47,950, erected with 50 X 50 slab and 17 X 60 front apron. The same size hangar now at our airport, without a mezzanine, is selling for $75,000.
Your kit price doesn't sound too far off if it includes the electric bifold door.
Just my opinion.

I am building a new hanger in Georgia

I was quoted $ 55,000 for a 60 x 80 slab, metal building, 46 foot HiFold door.

Does anyone have experience with Hi Folds' hydraulic operated bifold.

From reading the description of the $18,000 building you are looking at, I am guessing it is a Miracle Truss.

This is a good company, but:

"Wood Schedule" means that there is no wood included in the quote. Since their truss span is 12 ft, the 2 x 6 purlins/girts must be douglas fur lumber. This is not always available and is costly.

If it is not a Miracle Truss quote, disregard.

I built a Kentucky Steel Truss 50'X48' X 14' high hangar two years ago. The cost at that time was 17,000 which included all steel and skins. I purchased a hifold door 46' X 12' for $4500 and the slab was around $8,000. There are three of these on my airport (5R7) and they stood through hurricane Ivan last year with no damage. We were just west of the eye and had sustained winds of ~ 100 mph for 4-6 hours.

In 2002 I had Lester build my 36x48 shop for $24,000 and the finished and insulated ceiling was a $5000 option. I also had a premium 12x12 garage door option. So you could have the entire 30x40 built for about $18,000 (minus the hangar door of course). Talk to different builders and see how much they vary in prices, warranties, and if they offer kits.
