Tail fairing

Good evening:

This is my third attempt at getting an adequate fit to the tail fairing. Each time I attempt to attach it the attachment is too far forward and I fear there is not enough fiberglass to keep it attached during flight.

My thought was to add an extension of 2x the distance of the attachment area, using he currently drilled holes with slightly larger rivets. This will put the attachment of the fairing further aft leaving a greater edge distance.

I have attached a few pictures, but can send any one the word doc with arrows and lines showing my thoughts.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

The link to the photos doesn't work for me.

Your photo is not available. However, if you are concerned about enough fiberglass to keep the part in place (from what I read) simply add some cloth material to extend the edge of the part. I little bit of work but worth the time for "peace of mind".

Here are the pictures of my idea to extend the attachments. Lengthening of the failing will not help, it will just push the whole fairing further aft

Pictures still not viewable.

Suggest you upload pictures to Google Drive. Then right-click on them there and get a sharable link and paste that in your message.

Tail Fairing

Okay, sorry for the difficulties, not sure why this is so difficult but here we go.

My thought is to bring the attachment further aft so there is more "meat: to the fairing

If you cannot open the pics, I will send you a PM if you provide your email.

Thanks again everyone

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is... but are you trying to attach the tail fairing on the inside of the skin?

???

Do not understand the issue here. Can you explain more clearly? I had no problems with this item at all

tail

Hi something is not right if the tail cone doesnt fit
you dont need to extend or add or modify anything to fit the fibreglass cone
the holes are prepunched in the tail and the fibreglass cone has a scribe line marking where to cut
I would be finding where the problem is and redoing that not using larger rivets or adding anything

From the description in one of your attached documents:
"Problem: Despite following KAI the placement of the nut place the holes too far forward to attach the empennage F-1249B-1 and F-1249A fairing and have the stabilator move adequately."

It sounds like you may need to trim the stabilator opening (wedge shaped window) to allow unrestricted movement. I ended up installing, marking, removing, trimming and re-installing several times before I was satisfied with the clearance. Just take small amounts off each time, then look to see where it is contacting.
