IO-320-D1A servo compatability
 
I was cabling up my servo and found the control reversed. Full forward closes butterfly. Full aft throttle opens up. This is with the throttle on right as per the VANs diagram.

I bought a rebuilt IO0320-D1A to avoid as many interop issues as possible but I guess the philosophy doesn't always work. In this case the builder sent me a rebuilt RSA-5AD1 2524242-9
which appears to be for and IO-320 C & F. The application chart it's supposed to be 2524307 for the IO-320-D1A.
Is it best to send this back to exchange for the correct variant or is this easily adapted.

I'd also appreciate some setup help. I noticed cable travel is beyond 2-1/8". But it also appears the set screws are completely backed off. Set up correctly should I expect the full travel of the throttle cable to be the full range of the servo?

Sending that servo to Airflow Performance in South Carolina will get it all fixed up correctly.

My installation is "reversed". Note that the mixture is on the left and the arm rotates above the base of the servo instead of below. No notch is needed in the air cleaner.

Ditto on talking to the servo people.

Hi John

Your picture and explanation are a bit confusing for me, mostly because of the way mine is apparently set up.
Let say we use the lycoming manual figure 7-1 Fuel Metering System

page 7-4.

It's for the RSA-5AD1, as is mine but showing a different variant based on the throttle lever. If the rotations shown for the controls are consistent your situation makes sense if your throttle is also reclocked to the top. With mine it makes sense if the throttle is clocked to the top or the servo body is rotated 180 degree's. If the RSA-5AD1 always rotates it's controls on the shafts same as that diagram regardless of variant then I'm safe to play with it.

What doesn't make any sense is the angles they show of 72/68 degrees and 82/78 degrees. Rotation is closer to 90 degrees so I don't know what they mean there.

Hi Michael,

My experience is one airplane only and my engine was a new 'kit' Superior built by Eagle Engines in Redding, CA.

The only advice I can share is that the cable 'throw' should be more than the servo. In other words, when the throttle or mixture is all of the way forward, there is still about 1/8" of travel left in the cable.

Here is a picture of the right side with the throttle closed:
