6A removing the HS???

Folks, in preparation for a 500 mile trailer haul, I'm curious how difficult it is to remove the horizontal stab...

Thank you.

Pretty easy. Only a few bolts, though the VS has to come off first and some of the bolts are a bit tricky to get a wrench on the nuts. Bring forceps and a few options for holding the nuts (wrenches/sockets).

Great time to double check your edge distances especially on the top longerons. This is a common place to find build errors. Many are flying around unaware.
Bring a sharpie and mark the shims under the HS Spar so you can put them back in the same side and orientation.

Remove the rudder, elevators, VS, and then the HS will come off.

If this is a taildragger, it could get nose heavy.

It's an "A".

Thanks fellas. Much appreciated...

Definitely an easy task as Bill described.

Let's see:
- #2 phillips
- 3/8" wrench x 2
- 3/8" ratcheting box end
- 3/8" 1/4 drive socket and ratchet (no extension)
- 7/16" short combo wrench
- 7/16" 1/4 drive socket
- pair of side cutters! (no telling what the tail light is going to be.)
- something to wrap the elevator pushrod with to cushion it on the bulkhead and some long tie wraps to hold it in place.

I think we pretty much walk off with the whole assembly in 40min.

Hardest part is removing the trim cable, if manual trim. Not really hard. Harder to put back but, again, not hard.

And a couple of closeup photos with your phone might be helpful later.

Also have one of the magnetic picker uppers for the nut that will get dropped into the tailcone.... ;)
