Best Center Console Height

I am building a center console/arm rest for the 10. Curious what others have found to be a good height for this. I am looking for the height above the tunnel cover.

I have done some experimentation, but it is hard to gauge comfort before making a mock up, which I haven't done yet.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Larry,

I still have that bolt-together female mold for making a center console for the 10. I you're interested let me know. Seems like it would save you a lot of work, since you wouldn't need to build a plug or cast the female mold..

Thanks again for the offer. It looked like I would need to learn vacuum bagging to make a f/g one with that mold. I decided to make one out of aluminum to save the f/g hassle. I have very limited experience working with molds. Do you recall the height of that mold?

Sorry. I don't, but going off memory, I think it's about 10" to 12" above the tunnel. However, I think it was made with the idea to have lots of storage and potentially a place for an O2 cylinder sitting on the tunnel, but under the storage bin. I'm not sure how tall the aftermarket ones are. Using aluminum instead of FG is a sound idea, but it will likely weigh more and not necessarily be as robust, unless you fortify the sides. I don't think you need to vacuum bag to use this mold. You just do a wet lay up on the interior of the mold, one half at a time, then connect them together. Sand, prep and paint.

Mike,

I would be interested in the mold....I am looking to utilize that space.

I'd be interested in the mold as well, or at least some pictures to see what the final product looks like.

For anyone who would like the mold..

I did not make this mold. It was made by another 10 builder, who's much better at fiberglass than I. He let me borrow it, for free, and I intend to "pay it forward" to another 10 builder, via this site. The next user should plan to do the same. If you would like to be the next steward of this mold, PM me.

Mold is 7.25 inches

I made the mold. To get the height I sat in the seat and placed foam blocks of the proposed size to get a comfortable place to set my forearm.

Even though I used vacuum infusion process to mold, it is easier to lay up the old fashioned way with a little more resin. Somewhere in my Kitlog (signature line for link) are photos and a description of the whole process.

Somewhere in circulation is the mold I made/used for the overhead as well.

Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions.

Leo,

Thank you for the source information on your build log and thank you for the hard work you put into designing and fabricating the process and mold.

I have coordinated with Mike to use the mold. Thank you Mike. I look forward to a well functioning center console.

I will pay it forward to the community for those who would like to use it next.

Thanks for the dimension!
