Garmin CAN Bus for Dummies

I'm gathering everything to do signal wiring for a complete Garmin panel. I have most of the components and signal diagram from Stein. I wired my 7-A panel (dual GRT EFIS with some other stuff) with no isues.

I'm aware that that there was something in the Garmin world called a "CAN Bus" and sure enough it has several references on the wiring diagram. I searched "Garmin CAN Bus" and this came up: "Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus is a serial communications protocol that supports distributed real-time control with a high level of security."

Is there a layman's explanation or writeup for the CAN Bus or a book "CAN Bus for Dummies"? Stein's diagram is simple and straight forward except for you-know-what.

Thank you
Jerry

Jerry,

We spent quite a bit of time detailing this in our installation manual. Please review section 2.3.1.3 for an overview of the CAN bus with detailed installation guidance.

The G3X Installation Manual can be downloaded here: https://support.garmin.com/support/m...o=010-00G3X-00

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Levi

Thank you. I will do so. Also had a great introduction session from Stein.
