Firewall Pass Through

Hi. I'm considering this for the throttle and mixture cable firewall pass through. Anyone have any experience with these?

Firewall Pass Through

For throttle and mixture I would (and am) using these

The ball allows the cable to find its natural angle. The ones you are considering will not.

Those are what I used, no aluminum for me on the FW.

Thanks, what size hole do you drill in the firewall?

Installation instructions are included in the kit.

The ball on those is aluminum. Do they make a stainless version?

Not stainless but is steel.

Thanks Dave, after I posted I started to look for myself which is what I should have done in the first place. I?m wondering if the ball will corrode if not stainless. Here in Houston everything rusts in the hangar, even plastic :D

A fella can weld up a tubular steel pass through for about fifty cents. Point it at any angle you wish.

See post #38, 40, and 42.

Are those pass throughs of yours 2 pieces? A welded tube section then a backing plate to sandwich the firewall between them?

Just a base plate with a tube welded to it.

More Welded Tubes

Welded tubes, firesleeve, and Firebarrier 2000+. Tubes were pretty easy to make - even the big angled one in the second photo. I used these for everything including control cables. Each control cable got it's own.

Thanks for the examples guys. Looks like I'll have a buddy of mine weld me up a few of these. What do you recommend for the thickness?

Not critical. What is in the scrap bin? I've been using material around 0.050 (an old guy can TIG it on a shaky day), but 0.025 is just as fireproof.
