AFP Fuel Flow Divider

How does the AFP fuel flow divider work? Anybody have a picture of one opened up? Are they complicated or fairly simple?

Fuel Divider

Simple but very precise. Fuel pressure works against a diaphram with a backing spring. At low flow fuel flows, the incoming fuel is forced through a divider (four tapered perimeter orifices on the perimeter of a plunger on above mentioned diaphram) to very precisely divide fuel to the individual nozzles. At higher pressures and flows, it is a wide open, simple manifold.

The purpose of the device is to compensate for uneven injector heights (I.E. favoring of low) and losses in spider lines at low flows.

Actually there are pictures in your Installation and Operation Manual. Check out 6-9 through 6-10.

Our flow divider has a matched fit spool valve (.0001?-.0002? clearance), which opens the ports (matched .0075? slots) at the bottom of the flow divider bushing. The base of the flow divider cover and the bottom of the flow divider bushing/body are lapped flat so that when the flow divider valve starts to open, all the ports open at exactly the same time.

Hope this helps. If you need further information on this device feel free to give us a call.
