AeroLEDs has released a new product, the Polaris all LED position light bulb replacement. The Polaris LED Nav Light Bulb is a direct replacement for incandescent nav light bulbs in red and green forward position lights. This product uses 1/4 of the current draw of an incandescent bulb. Polaris complies with the FAR requirements for color and intensity at all angles. FAA-PMA pending (estimate approval in 2017). Available for both 12V and 24V electrical systems. Cost of this?

$135 according to the link he provided. That would be about $180 to us Canadians.

$135 each is insane for just a light bulb :(

Mark: Sorry for stupid ??. Didn't notice the link. Agree that $135 is really high for a bulb. A lifetime warranty might help.. 5 years doesn't do it - my old bulbs last longer than that!

I suppose $135 seems high but for spam cans it is a reasonably priced option and avoids having to run new wires (and pull tanks, potentially).

The price may seem high, but there is a lot more that goes into the Polaris than for instance this one, which is almost as expensive with just a circuit board and bayonet base:

The one in the above link to does not have a heatsink or lens optics, and doesn't put light into the 90 to 110 degree aft angles (the board sticks straight out of the base). The LEDs and components are protected from the environment and handling in our design as opposed to leaving them exposed.

The Polaris is designed to exceed the light output of an incandescent bulb at all of the required angles, and also meet the cutoff angles just like the original bulb. A single part number is used for both the red and green as the LED spectrum mimics the incandescent to provide the correct color through the lens.

I think they look pretty cool for a retrofit option. Are they actually 1000 lumens? That's an insane amount of light. I have the ones in link you provided and those claim to be 120lm and to me are already quite bright so are the AeroLED's really 8 times brighter?

Based on the LED efficacy and the forward current, yes, we are at 1000 lumens. The intensity through the filter is higher than the stock bulb.

For homebuilts-superbrightleds.com automotive 1156 replacements with a generic automotive socket and homemade color lens for the wings. about $5 each for the bulbs. May not be practical for RV depending on your original lights.
