RV-8 Flight on a Perfect Colorado Day
An amazingly blue and pristine Colorado sky beckoned to me as I drove to work this morning: "Turn around, go to the airport, and get that RV up in the air." Who was I to resist the siren song of perfect weather?
Flew down to Meadowlake airport near Colorado Springs. It's a very cool airpark with a thriving community situated in the shadow of Pikes Peak. It even has my favorite identifier: KFLY. This was the first time I've landed there and I'll definitely return. During the flight down: Pikes Peak with the Palmer Divide in the foreground. ![]() KFLY windsock and Pikes Peak. ![]() Back to KAPA in time to meet a good friend for lunch at the airport restaurant! ![]() I might have some video later... stay tuned. |
Nice shots! I was at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in '94, the pre-pavement era, when Rod Millen set that 10:04 mark that held up for many years. Your plane looks great too!

Looking good Joe. I miss Colorado!

Great pics, Joe. We here in the gray Midwest are nothing but envious. :(

Love doing touch n' goes at KFLY. Nice and narrow but long runway.
I am almost positive I saw you fly over our home in Elizabeth. Pretty good ground speed! |
