Hartzell Propeller approval summary
I'm sorry folks, this list started as an easy-to-read MS Word table but it would not cut-n-paste into this message and I cannot attach a document, so I had to resort to a simple, sequential list. Hopefully this will provide some useful info? If any of you find mistakes, I reserve the right to make corrections... I will add applicable info or additional approvals when available.

Van?s only endorses the 74? propeller for RV-4s with long gear legs and the RV-6/6A, 7/7A and 8/8A. NOTE: Propeller vibration characteristics and stress amplitudes on a reciprocating engine installation are primarily mechanically generated by the engine. Any modification to the standard engine configuration to include high-compression pistons, electronic ignition, FADEC, tuned induction and exhaust, and turbo-charging or turbo-normalizing have the potential to adversely affect the propeller vibration characteristics and stress amplitudes. Hartzell Propeller therefore does not endorse any such engine modification unless the specific engine and propeller configurations have been tested and found to be vibrationally acceptable according to 14 CFR 23.907. |
Les,
First of all thanks for posting this. Got a question...on TCDS P-920 I see many other combinations listed that are "approved vibrationwise." My engine is an IO-360-A1B6 (200hp w/dampers). Here's the one you listed for that engine: Quote:
Just want to understand whether the list you posted is "be all end all" or whether there are more combos, i.e. what's on the TCDS, that are approved. Thanks! |
TCDS P-920
Yes Dan, TCDS P-920 is what everyone should follow if the combination is not in the list I posted. The TCDS is correct. My list includes what we've either tested recently and is not yet in P-920, or non-certified engine configurations we've tested in our effort to support the experimental market.
By the way, AvWeb has a good article by Marc Cook that documents the testing that approved the 7497 on the IO-390-X http://www.avweb.com/news/columns/193075-1.html . Les |
