This is really impressive work, Steve. My new printer is on the way. This could be fun!

Got any recommendations on a hand-held 3D scanner? What is it that the AirCorps guys use, any idea? It's probably pretty high-end; just wondering if there is a "hobby" version out there that is reasonable to buy and use?

I don't know about hand held scanners but I did recently obtain an older David Scanner. I need to upload some of those scans. a problem for designers applying to existing hardware is to understand the design space completely. I hope the scanner helps me do that.

a set of six in print

pushing buttons and making airplane parts. I tell my wife, yeah, I'm working, as I drink my beer. Usually I make parts while I'm sleeping. If you run your printer while you sleep make sure you have some safety systems in place in case of fire. also, filter or vent the printer air. there are some fine particles given off.

Google something like "3d printer catches fire" and look at the images.

12 hr print time

a set of fwd flap bracket fairings for the RV9. total finished weight of these 6 parts = 191 gm (0.42 lb).

Steve, that print job is just aching for a multi-material printer and soluble supports... :)

Steve, any idea if the 9 flap hinges are shared by any of the other RV series? It would be great if say the ten uses the same hardware and could use your fairings as well.

What slicer are you using? What percentage of infill? Couldn't you reduce the amount of support required by printing those on their side? You couldn't print as many at once, but the quality might be better overall..

No. these will only fit a 9. if I find the 3 kts speed increase I'm looking for and no other issues, I'll make a set for the 10.

agree, that's in the future plans but an investment in hardware. we will see if there is any benefit with these fairings firstly.
