RV-12iS Flap Motor Broke

Well Known Member
Has anyone else had the flap motor come loose from the rest of its housing?

Looks like we’ll be purchasing a new ES-FA-PO-150-12-2…can’t right now because Van’s store on the web is a mess…not loading or searching correctly. :-(

Thanks!

Hi Jim,
We would like to get more information regarding this.

Could you please file a report using the method described on page 17-1 of the Maintenance Manual (I have attached a copy below for your convenience).

Use any method you wish. The feed-back form (also attached) can be used as a guide for the type of information to provide, but it is not necessary to actually use the form... just the appropriate info type in an e-mail is fine.

Thanks

In the interest of safety, I’d recommend anyone who has the center cover off of their RV-12iS, inspect the flap motor for movement or looseness. Here’s a picture of the screws that came loose. As a general rule, all fasteners need a locking mechanism…in this case there was none. A lock washer or loctite would be acceptable in my lay opinion.

Additionally, while we were disassembling the flap assembly, the internal wires just pulled apart…held together with a half twist and heat shrink… no solder or crimp anywhere. Definitely not aviation standard methods from what I know.

Fly safe!

Jim
