Is this possible

Is it possible to drive a TruTrak ADI Pilot II with both a GPS or a SL-30 with a switch to select the appropriate serial data stream or some other method to get vor/localizer tracking with the TruTrak using the SL-30?

Unfortuneately no. All of the AP's that take a serial data stream (RS-232) need it in GPS / NMEA formate....to which the SL-30 does not output. You'd need to upgrade to the AP-100 or something similar. The other altnernative is to use something like the GRT EFIS to translate the serial stream from the SL-30 into the appropriate RS-232 and ARINC streams (which it does beuatifully).

Otherwise, you're stuck with only using the serial stream from a GPS only.

Cheers,
Stein.

Thanks,

So can the GRT also do vertical, glideslope output to a Trutrak using the SL-30 as the source? What model Trutrak supports this if it can?

The Digiflight II VGVS------------but you will need an ARINC 429 module in the GRT, and that is another $475.00.

At least this is what I have been told when I was looking into the same issue----using serial info from a GPS to run autopilot, and utilizing all functions of the A/P.

YMMV.
