The intercom on my SL-40 was not working so I called Garmin for help. The technician said that 90% of the problems with the SL-30/SL-40 were caused by bad grounding. He suggested that I isolate all jacks, not just the microphone jacks. I did so and now the intercom functions correctly. Isolation shoulder washers can be purchased from B&C for 50 cents a set, part number S892. One set does one jack. If you call them direcly, they may forgive the $9 shipping charge.
