I have a friend, about to finish his RV-8A. There was some discussion today about where the large "Experimental" label is placed (given the small amount of available surface area).

Where is this usually placed?

A place that is overlooked is the fusalage over the wing. As long as the passenger can see it getting into the plane its placed well.

Experimental Placard

Here's where I placed mine - above the right pax armrest. I got the interior from Becki Orndorff and once I had it fitted I took it to a local embroidery shop to do the fancy work.
