Cowl fit

Ted Farmin

Now that I have closed the gap between the cowl and spinner it appears that
we will have to remove the prop and spinner back plate to get the lower
cowl half off so we don't remove paint in the process. What has been your
experience?

Ted & Tim,

I have the O-360 in my -4 and that backing plate is close to the prop. What I have been doing to avoid damage to those surfaces which will invariably contact each other is I have obtained a sheet of plastic from the local hobby shop (I think it is some vacuumn form stock) and I punched holes in the sheet, strung some para cord onto it, and tied that on between the prop and the cowling. Works fine so far..

Re:Close Cowl...

Ted,
I have the good ole long cowl with 4" extension and a nice close fit between my spinner backplate and cowl as well. I put clear MHWH tape from Van's on the forward flat nose portion of my lower cowl to protect it during removal/installation. Works very well..
