Petit Jean tomorrow 12-28-08 for lunch?

Cindy (my wife) and I are going to fly up to Petit Jean State Park (KMPJ) in the morning.

We plan to arrive around 10:00.

I just thought I would mention it here, maybe to give someone an idea

Might want to have plan B. They are installing runway lights and have NOTAM'd closed the airport for awhile.

Petit Jean Runway Light Project

Apparently the runway light project is causing some concern for a local observatory.

The referenced post indicates that the airport is almost unused and estimates total traffic at 3-4 aircraft per month. The old Airnav data lists it at about 83 per month....but that was in 2006.
Petit Jean is one of my favorite places to fly and camp. I'm surprised that the traffic is so low.
The last time I went there I arrived somewhat later than planned due to head winds. As a result, I would have benefited from the runway lights, but at the same time, the unobstructed night sky in that area is one of the things that make camping great!
