Paint quanity

Can someone tell me a good starting quanity of Jet Glo or Imron or similar white base coat for an RV-8. I just saw the price of this stuff and I hate to throw a bunch away. Thanks Ron

2 gallons is a good start

I used two gallons of white Aerothane to paint the base color (wings, fuselage, fairings lower cowl, pants) and one gallon of red for the empenage, upper fuselage, spinner, and upper cowl. One gallon of reducer was also used.
I also used a gallon kit (2.5 gallons of actual primer, when mixed) of EP420 primer for the exterior. This was for a 7A. Aerothane is about $150 a gallon and is very glossy.

I would buy no more than two kits of base color. This is more than enough to do the whole airplane. You will have some left over. All the metal parts can be primed with less than 4 quarts of mixed primer.
