Part number?

I removed the filtered air box and changed the air filter yesterday. The cable for the carb heat came out of the connector. It looks like a bolt through a bracket with a nut with the nylon insert so it won't back out, and a couple of washers around the cable. I noticed a hole in the bolt and ran the cable through that and tried to tighten it. But the hole I found out later is for a cotter pin. I think the wrong parts were used. How should it connect to the flap? I would have expected a bolt with the hole above the threads with washers on either side and the nut to hold it against the bracket. Is this correct and is there a part number for that bolt?
I broke the end of the cable off (what a dummy I am). I ordered a new one from Vans and want to make sure I don't mess up again. I am also thinking I can pull the old cable out from the sheath and insert the new one in without pulling the sheath out.

Sounds like you could use a "bug nut," a hardware kit commonly used on the wire termination end of Bowden cables sold by Van's as A-740 and are typically used in cabin/carb heat applications.
