Can anyone tell me if the sliding canopy can be opened in flight and, if so, what would be the safest speed to do so?

Thanks

That is not recommended, and I do not believe that flight condition has been tested (except for maybe accidentally).
Perhaps you need a Pitts. ;)

The reason I raise the issue is -- the Grumman Tiger has a very similar sliding canopy and at certain speeds (Vfe and below) you can open the slider in-flight to enjoy that "open cockpit" experience.

I was just wondering if any had ever tried it on an RV -- or if it is structurally outside the envelope.

While I did consider the Pitts (and even the Hevle Classic -- which is a beautiful two-seat Fly Baby) as kit choices. They weren't suitable to my primary mission of cross-country.
