I bought a new wide-angle zoom recently and took it up today for a trial. For the photo buffs, it is a Sigma 10-20mm on a Nikon D40, used flash fill. The lens was opened up all the way to 10mm for a wide-angle effect. Camera mounted on a tripod in the baggage comp, photo taken using a remote.

Flying a C172SP (starting RV-7A next month), up from Indianapolis to West Lafayette (Purdue) for Homecoming. Not the most flattering photo. I knew my uncle was taking pictures, I just didn't know he was taking pictures of me. :p

Look how intense I am. :rolleyes: I filed IFR, and needed it. Clouds were low, about 2500 MSL, and solid through 7500'. I really enjoy IFR flying, it just suits my brain.

When the time was right after completing Phase I, I invited my spousal unit to join me in a quick, sunset flight and she accepted. Her unwavering (and somewhat unjustified) faith in my abilities was gratefully appreciated as we circled the house a few times and enjoyed the sunset. This is taken from a video. I was testing the mount to see if the video camera would fly off the airplane. It was just stuck on with 3M outdoor mounting tape and a safety tether to a screw holding the top deck on. Tested to 185 MPH indicated.

I think everyone should have a video of their face while flying. I bet you make more funny faces than you think are possible.

We took or 2 year old daughter for her first $100 breakfast in the RV6 this morning. Just south of Lake Kissimmee we found River Ranch, a Westgate Property. On the weekends they have a buffet that is really nice but get their before 2:00 or you will be eating pizza at the country store. Fly in to their private runway, rent a golf cart for $5 and explore the property. When we finished with breakfast we took Delaney to the petting zoo. She loves the goats and talked about them all day long. They also offer pony rides and full size horse trail rides for the those that want to walk funny for a couple of days. If you are into shotgun sports they have a trap and skeet range on property. Designator for the airport is 2RR. Fun day trip for the whole family!

Funny thing is that it was a free ride.

I have a gig with air shows so sometimes I get a joy ride. If that does not happen blackmail also works.

The T-2 ride was fast, extremely low, with high G's.

How are you liking those in-ear headphones?

I love them! Bought them at OSH last year and I haven't gone back to the over-ear ones since. I tried on both these (halos) and the clarity aloft ones and found the halos to fit me better. I'd recommend trying them each before purchasing if you can. The clarity aloft sounded fine but they couldn't get it sized small enough for my head.

I did not care for the original plugs that came with the halos so I ordered these: http://www.complyfoampro.com/products/canal-tips-original/. They're more comfortable in my ear and fit the headset without any modifications. I believe the clarity aloft set already comes with these.

My amazing daughter was born 2lbs 2onces. Now she is 9 years old and doing great. However, we still have complications and we will have these issues for the long run. Shriners in Tampa has been taking amazing care of our daughter since she was 4. Normally we load the family of 5 into a vehicle and make the 4 hour drive across Florida.

This trip daddy got his wish and turned this trip into a 51 minute flight and $20 rental car. 10-15 minute drive from Tampa exec to hospital.

I doubt that DHS and the FAA would approve:). But if you added hard points on the wings of a Van's RV-8 with miniguns and maybe a Hellfire or two, you would have one heck of a close air support aircraft at about 1-30th of the cost of an AH-64 Apache,or an A-10 !!!!

They're my old Air Force Gentex flight helmets. We had Gibson and Barnes replace the guts with Noise Canceling inserts. Very comfortable way to fly around in an RV.

Christmas Eve day, I just finished another skim coat of Sheetrock mud in the living room and my parents just got in town. It's 2 hours until Church, 1500 OVC and 40 degrees and I haven't kicked the tires and lit the fires on the RV in 21 days. Time for Dad's first flight lesson, it was harder to get him to take the controls than for him to taxi and fly it. Pretty cool feeling overall, role reversal of him teaching me to drive the tractor/combine/truck (I learned to drive a 70' Ford 3/4 ton stick in reverse picking up electric fence in a wheat field standing on the floorboards when I was 7) Easy now, don't jerk it around just listen to what it's telling you and fl.... I mean drive it! Dad took us sight seeing for a .6 around local landmarks, he found out this flying thing ain't that hard....

Saw your post and wondered how cold it was at 15 grand, how fast did you see on GS and airspeed indicator, and how was the (what brand/size/options?) engine running at that altitude (oil temperature, rpm, fuel flow, EGT, CHT)?

Just curious if and when I try the same cruise altitude.

15000 was really a non issue other than sucking oxygen. I have an RV7A with an Aerosport IO 360 and dual Lightspeeds, on the panel a single Skyview and a Garmin GDU370. It is approved for IFR. As far as temps and pressures not much out of the normal. I do have an oil cooler shutter that works very well and is highly recommended.

On this particular trip coming back from the west coast I was trueing out at 155kts and grounding at about 185kts. On our next trip over the Rockies we came home with a GS of 205 knots at 13000 ft. Not too shabby.

As far as flying high goes, the highest I've gone is 18,000 ft. The last couple of thousand was rather slow and it sort of hangs there. Interesting but not something todo every day.

That is a standard Koger shade, not the larger one. I like mine, but I haven't tried the larger one to compare.
