RV6: Engine hanging counterweight

All,

I'll be hanging my new TMX O-360 on my RV6 this week. Without the empennage attached is there enough weight in the tail to keep the plane from toppling over forward?

I could 'sandbag' the tail if I need to...just wondering what to watch out for.

Regards,

balance point for engine on fuse...

I have an O-320 engine hung on my 6A w/o the emp. The padded fuse support is about 4" behind the firewall, and I have about 20 Lbs resting on the emp 'shelf' in the back. With this setup you can hang the prop / cowl / baffles and not worry about nosing over. You can test the balance by lifting from the tail. I always want about 20-30 Lbs on the tail to offset any 100-150 Lbs in the front. Metric conversion required for NZ ;-)

i strapped a 20lb barbell weight to the shelf back there when i had the same situation. without it my tail was very light with a 0-320.

don't risk it!
