New Rules Coming

Until the early 70's, anybody with a big checkbook could get into a warbird
and demonstrate their skill and bravado..........until, that is, an F-86 went the length of the runway at Sacramento Executive and put an early end to a birthday party full of 8 year olds at an ice cream parlor. Now everybody has to get a letter of competency from the feds to fly one of these beautiful, historical machines, demonstrating their knowledge and ability to do so.

There are 4 P-38's remaining, a couple of P-40's, a couple hundred P-51's.
Maybe it wouldn't be unwise to start operating them more conservatively, treating them as the national historical treasures that they are. A formation landing isn't really required to show off this beautiful aircraft, especially if it can turn into such carnage.

With the coming of the new rules for Quick Builds, maybe we all should examine our own actions and consider what potential impacts we may be having on the future of our sport.
