RV-3 spar mods

I recently purchased RV-3, N90516, SN 214.

A logbook entry from 5/28/95 states (in part): "Repaired spar center section as per Van's Aircraft instructions." There was no reference to CN-1 or 2.

Can anyone tell from the following pictures what might have been done? Pictures taken form firewall looking aft - best I could do.




Suggestions from anyone who has made whatever mods would be greatly appreciated.

According to my records, the CN-2 did not come out until 1997. Cn-1 pertains to the rear spar.

Difficult to tell from the photos however it may have been a repair made with Van?s instruction apart from the actual spar mods. I recommend you review the following information as provided here courtesy of Randy Lervold:

I have copies of Van's CN-1 & CN-2 notices - noting that my #241 is a Type 1 wing.

I have also sent an email to Van's requesting the CN-301 TYPE I information, which may incorporate CN-1 & CN-2 for the early wing.

Needless to say, the wings will need to be removed at my earliest opportunity to make the applicable modifications.

Any suggestions or hints from any one who has made such modifications would be appreciated.
