Canopy Bow Handles

Has anyone welded handles on the canopy bow? I want to put on a handle on each side for ease of getting in and out. I would like to take advantage of past experience and design. I want to weld the handles on and make sure that when grabbing there is space between the handle and canopy. Any help? I am building an RV-9a with a slider canopy.

Check out Mike Stewart's '6A web site.<http://www.mstewart.net/michael/rv/index.htm> He made handles out of .5" 4130 tube. I question if 10-32 screws would be sturdy enough. I plan to add handles on my 7A, just haven't decided exactly how yet.
