Import of LSA

A friend of mine is looking at importing into Canada a US registered LSA aircraft, what are some of the things he needs to know? On a finished LSA airplane does the MDRA get involved or will this be a TC issue? Will it be registered as "Experimental" and will he be able to do the maintenance? What license is requires to fly it? Questions like that. Any and all suggestions and help with this project is very much appreciated.

Hello Ivan,

Most of the information he needs is in the mdra website (www. md-ra.com). If it is registered as elsa in the US then it will be registered as a amateur-built aircraft in Canada and requires a Special Certificate of Airworthiness. The owner can do the maintenance like any other amateur-built. There is a form named " Review of import documents inspection" that has to be send out to MD-RA Inspections Services. As I said the procedure is in their website.
I was looking their web site some time ago and came across with this.
Hope this helps.
