Aft Skirts

Hello,

Anybody have some tricks to get the the aft skirts curled so they will lay flat?

The twist at the bottom is the part that is stumping me. I am drawing them over a bar in vice now and it gets me about half way there.

Aft skirts on RV-9A sliding canopy

Pete,

You can see my experience with this issue starting on my Page 47 from last summer. I did it twice and got acceptable results -- finally. Don't forget to look at my Tugwell canopy mod pages to see some extra things I did to help the fit of the skirt

Aft Skirt Rolling

Pete,

Try pulling the skirts accross your thigh at an angle. That and a little hand working, being careful not to crease the skirts, worked well for me.

The skirts fit within about 1/8 with the canopy propped open slightly as recommended in the manual. The gap is only about 1/32 at the lower left aft corner with the canopy fully closed. I can live with that.

You can see some pictures at:

Pete...

If you aren't happy with the aft skirt fit, you can do a fiberglass layup. Although time consuming, you can get a perfect fit this way.

BTW, after all of my twisting, bending and cutting, the left skirt fit perfectly and could have been aluminum. The right skirt needed some adjustment, but the fiberglass layup made this easy.

Good luck.
