What have people found to trim the empennage counter weights easily (E-614, for example)? Thanks in advance for your response.

I trimmed the counterweights for my RV-10 (I assume they're similar) with a chisel and hammer. Worked pretty well.

I trimmed away the majority of my -8 counterweights with a hacksaw. I then finished them up with a roloc pad on a die grinder. I left them heavy for now. I will drill them out after I have the plane painted.

Cutting the lead counterweights...

I put mine on the band saw for the cuts from the plans. Drilling holes in them will work to balance the elevators when the paint job is completed.

Thanks for the responses! I liked the bandsaw idea, so I tried it and it worked great. Then I trimmed to edges with a razorblade knife. That combination worked very well.

Thanks again for the input.
